Uncle Mark's Tutorials - 4 - Boston Guards the Denmark Strait, 1985

描述
Welcome to another of my ongoing series of tutorial missions. This one is designed to give people a little more experience with submarine combat.
Submarines give us an opportunity to discuss how sides and postures work. In Command, two units (e.g., a ship and a submarine) that are supposedly on the same side may function differently. In the first place, some units on the player's "side" might not be under the player's control (e.g., the player commands a navy task force, but there are air force units attacking the same enemy). To do this, the designer can simply set up two sides that are allied to each other--the player can see what the allied side is doing, but cannot control the units. One can also simulate sides that are not in full communication with each other by setting the respective postures of one or both of these sides to Neutral rather than Friendly. "Neutral" means they will not deliberately attack one another, but might do so by accident.
This scenario assumes hostilities have broken out in Europe. The war is only a few days old, but there has been limited use of chemical and tactical nuclear weapons, and American vessels have been cleared to use nuclear depth charges against enemy submarines.
You are in command of the American nuclear attack submarine Boston. You have been assigned to patrol the Denmark Strait, which lies between Iceland and Greenland. Controlling the Denmark Strait would be vital in any conflict between NATO and the Soviet Union (or, today, Russia) as it connects the Norwegian Sea with the rest of the Atlantic Ocean.
By the way, if you check your score when the scenario starts, you will see that the game considers the current situation a major failure. That is because if you don't find the convoy by the end of the scenario, it means the convoy has gotten through, and the only thing worse than that would be if they got through and your submarine was sunk.

A delta template .ini file has been included in the .zip file to assist in updating the scenario to any future versions of the database.
