Since when are Steam emoticons actual player models?
Well how about since right now?

The following mod adds 4 playermodels based on the Bastion emoticons for Steam (listed in this order on the screenshots):

Models have been recreated in 3D and they have the same collision as normal playermodels, they come with red variants for Teambased gamemodes and most important, upon death, Squirties will play a custom particle simulating a water splash instead of turning ragdoll (this applies to them dying for whatever reason) and play a water splash sound.

To download you hit that +Subscribe button and you let Steam download the mod, then you launch the game on Moddable mode, and then you play as Squirties!

Most important, mod should work without the DLC!
