Prototype Mobile Drill Platform - Gaius mk I

This is an old, out-of-production design hailing back to the earliest days of ST Enterprises' operation. Way back when the company was called Styler Dynamics, the original Gaius shipped out from the Tau Ceti factory in droves to meet the needs of miners during the Second Gold Rush of 2057. Though it is no longer built new, some models of the very first run of the Gaius rover can be found in the hands of collectors, or scallered about in junkyards all over the charted systems.
--Unlike its sucessors, the original Gaius possessed a smaller, lighter drilling arm with an additional point of articulation. It had longer reach than the current mk II models, but could tolerate much less vibration before breaking down.
--Rotor-based traction locks, rather than pistons.
--No collapsible stairway; engineers had to enter from static catwalks or use their jetpacks.
--Oddly placed cab fixtures made modification difficult.
--No ability to pressurize the cab; workers had to keep their suits sealed and use the equipped medbay to refill oxygen stores.
--Came equipped with a landing pad for auxiliary craft to be attached, and two connection points for loading/ unloading.
