This is a set of 2 large and 2 small ore detectors using the vanilla model.

Planetary Enhanced Ore Detectors

Large = 250m range
Small = 150m range


Space Long Range Ore Detectors

!!!!!!!! WARNING do not use this detector near planets it will lock your machine up or crash the game
!!!!!!!! Please make sure you do not turn this detector on unless you are in an asteroid field !!!!!

Large = 1500m range
Small = 1000m range

No, I still sometimes get a location on the ore. I should have said it *usually* fails to highlight the ore; it's more like it's halfway working. Or maybe like I botched a setting somewhere. But I'm not sure what to check.

It would not surprise me if they came up with an alternative scan method. The current scanning model seems really inefficient and as we have seen bogs down the system. I am wondering if they have some kind of large area technique to minimize the overhead. So that instead of pointing to the exact location of the ore now you will get kind of a general report of what is in the area.

I would prefer to be crashed to desktop. A bogged down processor sometimes won't even load the Ctrl-Alt-Del menu and I have to actually resort to the old-fashioned reset button.

PS have you noticed that the vanilla game's ore detectors seem to be broken? I think I just downloaded an update, maybe that fixed it, I'll try it, but as of yesterday no ore detectors, even the vanilla ones, would highlight the ore on my HUD. It tells me what the asteroid contains, but I've been having to use my eyes to actually find it.

Pretty much now that they have added the fixes. But once upon a time this would crash you to desktop.

It doesn't necessarily cause the client to crash. Scanning that many voxels at once overwhelms the processors to the point where the game is pretty much unplayable, and I can see where a system with anything but the latest in processors would seem to crash, but in fact your framerate has just gone to heck as the system tries to handle the demands.

Perhaps Keen has changed something key within SE to prevent those crashes. I just know that even thier own ore detector by defaut is set to 5 meters and you have to turn it up to 150 when you build it ( large grid that is).

I tried the Long Range Ore Detector on a planet, it works fine for me.

Could you release a seperate version of this mod that only includes Planetary Enhanced Ore Detectors without the Long Range ones please.

Yep but be careful using it close to the planets it will cause your client to crash.
