(2-8) St Hilaire

The heavy industrial capacity provided by St. Hilaire made it a critical strategic target for both the Axis and Allied forces. Factories bordering the railway line provided much need munitions and material to support the war effort, and a small port permitted the shipping of fuel resources to Axis supply depots along the river. Marshlands to the West proved a daunting challenge for infantry, forcing troops and vehicles movement towards the center of the town, where the heaviest fighting occurred.
