Real World Map 005: Salida, Co, USA

This is the map of the Salida in Colorado requested by a user on Simtropolis in a Temperate Biome that they were kind enough to let me share.

It covers the whole town as its fairly small as well as the nearby town of Poncha Springs and Smeltertown.

To try and add some variation into the actual terrain I've done it as a fertile valley surrounded by scrubland. There are a lot of all the resources spread around as they offered more variations to the ground colour more than being accurate or realistic.

As for the connections it has the 285 running North to South with route 50 intersecting it East to West and the connecting 291, as well as the flight paths crossing over where the airport is in real life.

hope you all enjoy the map and don't forget to drop in at the link below and leave a request for me if you have one!

Very nice map, too bad the highways have no medians though. Real life highway standards require medians so there is a central reservation for supporting bridge structures, spanning bridges to a central structure is very much cheaper.

Standard intersections with medians won't work because of this and building a collector/express system could be very costly because it becomes impossible to span just one or two bridge segments across 12 lanes of 4 highway roads.

Some real-life cities route public transit systems like light railway along most of a road link in the median, circumventing any intersection nodes along the way of course.

Oh wow, I just got back from the Salida area, we stay further north but what a gorgeous rendering of a beautiful area.
