Bamboo Mahjong

A fun mind-bending mahjong game for 2 players. Character, Dot, and Honor tiles are taken out, leaving you with only Bamboo tiles. Games are usually resolved in the space of 2-3 turns, and it's good practice for forming one-suit hands in real mahjong!

The game is based on Japanese mahjong. Play starts by rolling the dice to decide who the dealer is. An even roll means the non-rolling player is the dealer, while an odd roll means the rolling player is. The players then take 4 tiles at a time from the bag, starting with the dealer, until both players have 12 tiles. The dealer then draws an additional tile to make 13, and the other player does the same. The dealer then takes his final 14th tile and decides which tile to discard.

The scoring is the same as in Japanese mahjong. Each hand is always going to be Chin Itsu, so Haneman is guaranteed. You may also riichi, but there are no Dora or Ura-dora tiles. You may not pon, chi, or do an open Kan. Closed kans are fine. When a player wins the hand, the corresponding amount of points is taken from the other player. The game ends when one player has all their points taken. Due to the high-scoring nature of this game, it is reccomended that each player starts with 100,000 or even 200,000 points. Tenhou, Chiihou, and Renhou are much more common in this game, and they're still worth Yakuman!
