Byzantine Empire

描述
In this Scenario the Byzantine Empire crushed the power of the Ottomans in the Middle Ages and has since been conquering lands and expanding its influence.

Features Include:

- a Byzantine Empire possessing its original lands of the Eastern Roman Empire as well as Armenia. Also is the dominant naval force in the Mediterranean and possesses a large fleet and all of the Mediterranean islands. Territory claims over the lost exarchies of Ravenna and Carthage.

- Allies of the Byzantine Empire Russia and Ethiopia, both indifferent towards the Entente in general and the Uited Kingdom in particular. Especially bad relations with Austria-Hungary for the allies.

- A new nation, Libya, that became independent of the Ottoman Empire and has been included by France oin the Entente to deter aggression on the part of the Byzantine Empire.

- The Orhodox faith has expanded greatly to include the entirety of the Byzantine Empire as well as most of eastern Europe and all of East Africa.

- Greek nationalities and the hellenic culture have supplanted the former cultures and nationalities in all parts of the B?yzantine Empire due to vigorous hellenization oractices. The ethnicities are not changed except for some expansion of the greeks into Italy and Anatolia and an expansion of the Armenians into what was parts of Russia and the Ottoman Empire.

I just want Russia to keep her territories and have a powerful Byzantine Empire.

Alaska would definitely make sense, both for balance reasons to strengthen Russia and realism wise, considering that Russia would be much more powerful and stable. I definitely could add more minorities around the fringes, though Anatolia and Greece proper would remain Greek.

As for Armenia and Crimea I would suspect that since the Byzantines are supposed to have staved off weakness in the middle of the middle ages, they would have prevented the Ottomans from keeping it for long, and thus would have prevented Russia from taking it from them. Otherwise I definitely see your points, thank you for the imput! :D

I could suggest a greater Russian empire including Alaska and a bunch of other stuff. A suggestion for this current mod. Make it less Greek, like add some minorities and Armenia and Crimea weren't part of the Byzantines for long, I though they would still be part of Russia.

Its been a while since I was last here, but thank you for enjoying it! I might be able to come out with a new one with the new editor features at some point. Do you have any suggestions for something like that?

They did take Rome under Justinian I but it was eventually lost under subsequent emperors. While my mod attempts to reflect how they held on to their colonies in southern Italy tenaciously and for long after Justinian's death it would have been much harder to keep Rome.Rome would have the protection of the papacy which had always been contending with the Empire for supremacy as well as simple Italian nationalism throughout the ages. Specifically speaking though in this mod the Byzantines forwent reconquest of the less prosperous European territories in favor of recapturing the much more commercially viable provinces of Syria, Palestine, and Egypt. (Each incidentally also having more religious significance as they would wish to retake the patriarchates of Alexandria and Jerusalem from their conquerors.

would the byzantine empire not have taken Rome itself

That's a good point, however i don't think it would specifically be the Mahdists to take over the area because according to what I've now found about the uprising, it was mainly die to Ottoman rule and Islamic religious conflicts, both of which wouldm't factor into this mod due to the much stronger Orthodox influence in East Africa. Thanks for the advice though, I'll look more into possible independent nations or perhaps some orthodox dependent border states. Feel free to comment with more criticism though, you've been a great help! :D

If I may suggest, if the Byzantines hold Egypt then Britain probably won't take over Sudan, you might see another power in the area or perhaps the Mahdists could establish as independent. This would probably also lead to them Taking over all of East Africa from the sultanate of Zanzibar.
