The Columbia

The Columbia is a rural map for Cities: Skylines derived from the terrain of the Columbia River Gorge[en.wikipedia.org] between Oregon and Washington state, an astounding region formed thousands of years ago by the Missoula Floods[en.wikipedia.org]. The Gorge is a U.S. National Scenic Area and features miles of temperate rainforest and high grasslands.

The general shapes were imported from a heightmap and heavily modified to provide an entertaining and challenging citybuilding experience.


The Columbia River - A wide, lumbering expanse of water with a few good (if you're careful) dammable spots. In fact, the terrain from which the map was derived includes the location of the real-life Bonneville Hydroelectric Dam[en.wikipedia.org].

Interesting, natural terrain - Some flat, some sloped, some mountainous. Choose where you want to build to create your preferred skyline.

Connections - Highway, water, air, and railroad connections (though you'll have to work for the latter!).

A creative challenge - A couple challenging (but possible) mountain climbs to buildable space atop the summit (you may have to get creative to find your way up!).

Inspired by one of the most beautiful scenic areas of the Pacific Northwest. Now go fill it with traffic!
