T.N.F. Light Assault Fighter 'Manticore' Mk.IX

Modless, though and made to last. The 'Manticore' Medium Assault Fighter was one of the T.N.F.'s earliest fighter designs, and the Mark 9 is specifically designed to fit into 'Bellerophon'-class battlecruiser hangars. These hangars hoist its fighters vertically from a fighter deck to a flight deck using pistons, and because of this the Mark 9 has a top-mounted connector. It also lacks landing gears, as battlecruiser hangars have landing gears integrated on the fighter deck.

The open cockpit is protected by a mix of light and heavy armor plating, and the fighter's weapons and vital systems are also concentrated around it for extra durability. To each side of the cockpit are two thruster pods which adds to the total number of thrusters, increasing the amount of thrusters the Manticore can lose without reducing manoeuvrability.
These pods also contain active decoys, directing automated turret fire towards the pods. The cockpit section is designed to survive rocket hits to both pods. To increase the number of targets for automated turrets, or to remove damaged pods, each pod can be detached.
