Hospital Ship (No Mods)

"The Hope for Mankind", is a new "MERCY"-class hospital ship. It is, essentially, a repurposed, "GOLIATH" class transport, but was redesignated to "MERCY" after receiving a complete over-haul. Only the outer shell of the ship has remained mostly intact, as the interior was redesigned.

The ship now houses various medical stations and equipment, along with all essential support personnel. In addition, the armor from the front of the ship was removed, and transparent aluminum plating was added to provide a better view for the pilot. The periscope system and weapons where also removed to save power and space.

The Geneva Convention and all civilized RoE specifically forbid firing on a clearly-marked, civilian hospital ships. To date, the "Hope for Mankind" has saved hundreds of lives, in numerous areas, and has never been attacked.; -Not even by pirates that have had plenty of opportunities, while the HFM flew through contested space, unescorted.

Although the large hangar bay can support a rescue-shuttle, it is typically used to house numerous casualties, during times of crisis, and can serve as a triage area.

In one incident, it was noted that the "HFM" went INTO a hotzone unescorted, to rescue downed defence force pilots, then stayed in the area to rescue all enemy casualties as well. (Enemy combatants and pirates, are typically turned over to inter-system security forces, after they are treated and have recovered from their injuries)
