Cities XXL Community Mod required

The mod provides ability to place 80 natural areas (forests, parks, flower gardens, etc) as plazas and 89 kinds of trees as a single tree.


You can find them in

Decorations/Areas

and single trees in

City services/Fire rescue (it is chosen as a least probable place for the other mods)

when “Custom Content Building set” button is turned on




Don’t place too many flower gardens. They consist of hundreds of plants on small areas and it would be very expensive for your processor and memory.

To remove a single plant, find a small red can in center of it, select the can and press “delete” button.



All of them have small landmark, greenery and pollution reduction effects. It changes from area to area.

I tried to make all that staff looks like real European, Asian and American natural areas.

1. Forest. Trees are standing close to each other (but definitely not as close as in other forest mods—more like a real forest).

Very good greenery and air-cleaning effects. Moderate anti-noise effect.

2. Park or garden. There is open space between the trees. It looks like a city park.

Good anti-noise effect (due to visitors relaxation, I suppose) and greenery effect. Moderate air-cleaning effect. Small landmark effect.

3. Area. It has small number of lonely trees. Used to simulate natural areas with Baobabs, Joshua trees and so on.

Good anti-noise effect. Moderate greenery effect. Small air-cleaning effect. Small landmark effect.

4. Open area. Grass, ground, sand or snow. There are open areas for all ground textures used in the mod.

Best greenery effect. They need to have some effect, after all.

5. Swamp. It has many cattail and elephant ear plants and several dead trees.

Best air-cleaning effect. It seems strange, but swamps are the best natural oxygen generators.

6. Flower garden. Plants are small and standing very closely.

Best anti-noise effect. Moderate greenery effect. Small landmark effect.

7. Jungles. It is very dense forests with exotic trees.

Very good greenery effect. Good noise-cleaning effect. Small anti-noise and landmark effects.


Natural areas can be placed over water.

All areas except of flower gardens are widely expanding when they are placed, so you have to use roads to limit them. Flower gardens have very small expanding parameter.

In addition, you can use filters.

Geographical Origin filter shows you natural areas, which consist with the trees these usual for this place. Natural area names is just the name, so you should not be surprised, if you see “Russian forest” when turn on “America” filter.

Because not too many trees in game grow in Australia, it now contains all flower gardens.


Year filter is temporal solution, until Community mod will have done some more suitable for this case. But now you can use it for filtering area types.

800–1500 — forests
1500–1700 — parks
1700–1800 — gardens, orchards, plantations
1800–1850 — flower gardens
1850–1900 — jungles, palms, areas, swamps
1850–1901 — autumn forests and parks
