(6 - 8) Kursk Winter

The Battle of Kursk was unique in that both the forces of the Soviet Union and the Ostheer were aware of where it would occur before it ever did; far from a battle of chance, it was planned, rumoured and ultimately decoded on both sides of the war, allowing masses of vehicles, infantry and defences to be prepared before its unveiling. Although the battle itself was postponed until the Summer of 1943, to make way for the newly mass-produced Panther tank, any earlier or later, and the Battle of Kursk could have fallen on a completely different battlefield altogether.
