Introducing Day Number 09, the ’Farpoint’ - Airbase

““Caerix-7, this is Farpoint; reinforcement request acknowledged. State your location and we will extract you."

‘…’

"Do you read? Come in Caerix-7. Hunter, do you copy?”

‘…’

"We aren't getting a reply sir, should we dispatch a team to his last known coordinates?"

'No, hold off, something's not right - play that transmission again.'

'-That sound like hunter to you? "My pilot is dead". Either he's been coerced to send this or that's not him; regardless, this isn't a rescue request.

"There's something else sir: scanners picked up a fast mover exiting the atmosphere seven hours ago. IFF tags came back, and its... early terran?.. Closest match is an F-58 Seasmoke."

'The Silver Squadron, I remember reading about them... that's one of the ships that went missing in the pass - forty years prior.'

"I don’t understand, how is this possible?"

'I don’t know. There were rumours back in the early days - when we returned following the freeze. Those who stayed; the natives, warned us that rock was a cursed place. They spoke of ancient beings that lived beneath the ice, feeding on the lost.

I've always had suspicions that there was more than legend to it; something material. All the disappearances - the ships that went missing in the storms. Now we might finally have something close to proof.'

"What should we do? We can't just leave an airman out there, especially now."

'That's exactly what we must do. Shutter this facility and purge the drives. We need to regroup with our allies at Nautilus, and track that signature before it leaves the system.'

“But what about Hunter sir? – and the Sentinels?”

‘Hunter is from these lands: I doubt he has been killed by them; nor will he be. He's the toughest man I've ever met and if anyone could survive out there, it's him.

- As for the sentinels: let them keep the snows. This planet was lost long before today. At some point we have to face the reality that our duties are symbolic. This entity poses a tangible threat to those outside this world and we must put aside our pride - and if need be, our friends - if we are to survive what is to come.”
