Cinematic Music Overhaul

Experience Terraria like never before with a completely re-orchestrated soundtrack!

Cinematic Music Overhaul takes the music that you know and love from Terraria and completely re-designs it to be bigger, more immersive, and fully cinematic - all while staying true to the original sound.

Launching with 10 bespoke, re-orchestrated tracks, this project pays homage to Scott Lloyd Shelly’s unforgettable score through meticulous detail, rich orchestration, and a personal creative touch. All remaining vanilla tracks behave as normal in-game.

Tracks added so far:

- Corruption
- Crimson
- Desert
- Ice (Snow)
- Jungle
- Ocean
- Overworld Day
- Overworld Night
- The Journey Begins (Main Menu)
- Underground

...with more to come! Next up: Dungeon and Underworld (Hell).

Features:

- Toggle individual tracks on or off via the in-game Mod Config.

- Main Menu music can be selected as soon as you load up your game (at the bottom of the screen).

- A remastered soundtrack, entirely made with orchestral instruments (apart from a couple of synth pads and percussions here and there).

- All tracks loop seamlessly.

- Fully compatible with tModLoader 1.4 as well as mods such as Calamity and Thorium (but may not work so well with other music add-ons).

FAQ:

- Did you write these yourself?
+ Yes, I did! I'm a composer and write music for a living.

- Which tracks were the hardest to write?
+ Probably Ice or Underground... figuring out the arpeggios in Ice and finding suitable instruments for the synth parts in Underground were a b!tch. Scott Lloyd Shelly... I take my hat off to you, sir.

- Which track was your favourite to write?
+ Ocean. I really got to express myself on that one.

- Which tracks are next?
+ Dungeon and Underworld (Hell) but I am taking a small break for now because I've been working on this mod non-stop.

- How long did this take?
+ About 4 weeks. Each track took around two days and I also had to create the trailer and make sure the code worked for tModLoader. Believe it or not, I still have no idea how it works... but it does!

- Your mod is broken, can you fix it? [This is a placeholder question]
+ Please allow me some time to get everything working again if the mod is ever having issues, as coding is not the best of my skills (but I will figure it out!)

- Is this compatible with [insert mod]?
+ It should work with everything, although I doubt that it will work with other vanilla music replacement mods. I have, however, confirmed that it DOES work with other big mods, such as Calamity, Spirit Reforged, and Thorium. Check 'em out!

- Can I hire you or work with you for my mod/game?

Audio Info (for nerds):

- All tracks are mastered to -11 LUFS (integrated), -1.0 dB True Peak. YouTube versions are (automatically) mastered to -14 LUFS. This just means that they're louder in-game (as intended -- it's cinematic!)

- All tracks are 24-bit, 48 kHz.

- Files used in game are converted from .wav to .ogg for a smaller footprint, while maintaining quality.

- I've included the Alternate_Day and Alternate_Underground tracks from the official soundtrack into the Overworld Day and Underground scripts, before I make my own versions, so that they have a 1 in 3 chance to play (like vanilla). This is because music in tModLoader works differently from vanilla Terraria resource packs and has to be imported and referenced in a script instead of being replaced.

@natz many thanks! I'm glad you think the tracks fit into the cinematic genre. Music is subjective, so I've added toggles for users to revert back to vanilla (if they prefer). Re: synths, good point, although I'm remaking these purely with orchestral instruments. 1) because it's something new and 2) because it's a big challenge. Not that synths aren't cinematic, they definitely are, but I'm ensuring that meticulous detail goes into whatever I replace them with, otherwise I know it'll lose a bit of the magic that the original OST has (which nobody could ever replicate - it's just that good).

im normally super dismissive of these kinds of re-arrangements but im actually a really big fan of these. overworld night, desert and journeys beginning in particular are great! i do think some tracks might be too grand for the context in gameplay, like underground, but within the parameters of 'cinematic' it definitely lands. i would like to see some of terrarias iconic synths worked in in a few more spots, once you get to underground corruption & boss tracks itd lose a lot of itself without them i think.

Awesome, thanks! its not so much that i prefer vanilla, I like to use ultrasonic to play some LittleBigPlanet soundtracks if you're familiar with that game.

This is incredible, I don't know how much of the game's ost you intend you overhaul but I'd love to see your take on Morning Rain, Queen Slime and High Wind, my favorite out of the ten so far has to be Jungle, it's kinda got that same vibe as those, "This will be Minecraft graphics in 2017" videos in the best way possible.
