Chiba New Town Railway 9100 Series / 千葉ニュータウン鉄道9100形

All aboard the C-Flyer, express bound for Christmas!

The 9100 Series (9100形) is a commuter EMU operating on the Keisei Group’s Hokuso/Narita Sky Access Line since 1995.

This type was introduced by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation for the Chiba New Town Line, which was constructed to connect massive residential developments (Chiba New Town) with Central Tokyo. The 9100 series carry the nickname “C-Flyer” to emphasis a sense of speed and its status as a rapid/express train. The type is constructed with stainless steel, and features a unique front-end design intended based on the image of a long-tailed magpie, chosen to distinguish the type from other vehicles on the line, and to convey a positive image for Chiba New Town. For the interior, a simple design of lighter floor and ceiling tones, and bluish seat covers were used. While long seats are expectedly predominant, there are some cross seats at one end of each carriage, some of which are used as priority seats. The type’s running equipment is identical to that of the Keisei 3700 series, as maintenance and inspection works are outsourced to Keisei Group companies. 2 8-car sets were produced in 1994 ahead of the Inzai-Makinohara extension for the Chiba New Town Line (Now Hokuso/Narita Sky Access Line), joined by a single additional set with minor improvements when the line opened to Imba-Nihon-Idai in 2000, for a total of 24 cars. The 9100 series operates on the Hokuso Line as far as Imba Nihon-idai, as well as the through running Toei Asakusa Line and Keikyu Lines to Haneda Airport, but it does not run to Narita Airport.
