XMS Agony — Third Sister of the Three Sorrows

“Agony is the silence between breaths — the shape of something waiting to be whole.”
— Rhone, Shipwright of the Unburied Fleet

The XMS Agony is the youngest of Rhone’s Three Sorrows — the quiet sister, the one that hides her purpose behind odd proportions and empty halls. Unlike Grief and Misery, she wasn’t built to fight or dig. She was built to hold. To carry. To complete a shape no single ship could form alone.

Rhone gets defensive when pilots mock her appearance. “She’s not weird,” he says. “She’s listening for her sisters.”
And he’s right. Alone, Agony looks strange — a skeletal carrier with too much belly and too little teeth.
But when XMS Grief docks to her stern and XMS Misery locks to her bow, the three hulls interlock into a single superstructure Rhone calls The Sorrows — a fused vessel of terrible purpose.

Agony is the hinge, the spine, the silent sister. Without her, the Sorrows are two wounded ships adrift. With her, they become a herald.

The XMS Agony is a Core-9 hub carrier and logistics backbone, designed to be the final sister spawned in a playthrough. She offers enormous storage, generous hangar volume, and the structural slots needed to assemble the Sorrows.

Her job isn’t combat — though she carries 8 Light Gatling Turrets for drone defense — but to store, supply, and stabilize. With 6 × 640k cargo containers and 10 × 16k speed-sort boxes, she can swallow everything the XMS Grief mines and everything the XMS Misery destroys.

Perfect docking alignment is supported by signature docking lights (thanks Suluscador!) and walkway ramps that seal the joints between the three ships, creating the illusion of a single unified hull. Her nacelles house additional storage and plenty of upgrade space, though Agony rarely needs more than she already has.

She includes full medical, two Advanced Constructors, and prewired expansion slots allowing upgrades all the way to Core 17, unlocking heavier thrust, more constructors, and deeper logistical capabilities if desired.

Agony is the ship you trust with your hoard, your tools, your crew, and your future.

Notes
Agony doesn’t boast. She doesn’t roar. She waits — and when her sisters arrive, she becomes what she was always meant to be: the body that holds their shared soul.

“Agony isn’t ugly. She’s lonely.” — Rhone

I've updated the other two ships with a "Docking Thrusters" toggle. This will shut off half of the thrusters which makes it a a little easier to line them up with the docking guides. I've also turned off the docking guides on the other ships by default, but left them on by default on the Agony. Hopefully this helps avoid confusion about which ones to use to line things up nice and snug.

That's very odd! Ill send you a friend request and ma I be we can figure out what's going on!

I tried what you said and I think I succeeded in the docking yet somehow when I try to move this ship the other two still don't move with it

That is odd, none of the other ships can have anything docked to them, and then you pilot those two ships onto this one. Make sure they're all set to either private or faction, if they have a mix the sometimes won't dock. Although reloading has fixed that for me in the past.

Once they're docked they have to be flown from the Agony.

If none of what I just explained makes sense/helps then friend/message me on steam and maybe I can help figure out what's going on over discord, if you're willing to stream your session to me.

I may be dumb but I can't get the other ships to dock, the moment I do I leave them behind if I move, how to solve this?

Whoops! I didn't realize I'd blocked over those bridge doors. I've updated the build so they properly operate as bridge access. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

As for the handling, I don't tend to do a lot of flying in the Agony, but you can also solve the issue by upping the core and going to thrusters above Ion, if you're looking for a quick fix.

I love the way this ship looks. Even more so when combined with the Misery in front. It flies like a dream until you dock the Grief on the back. Her tail just gets too long then. I like the module docks on the underside, and the low slung bridge. I like the armor plate look and the color scheme. The hangar bay is massive (you could put Astra modules in there!), and there is plenty of roof space for more parking. Plenty of defensive turret locations.

What I would change in future builds: there are doors in the bridge that lead nowhere, would be a nice quick exit point, I would shrink the rear docking (and shorten the rear ship) to keep the center of mass tighter. I would have more space for constructors and use this as a factory ship. I can't make the ramps work for docking. I would make the whole ship able to land and load/unload HVs. That would likely mean stacking the whole build more vertically and putting the hangars on the bottom.

Im addicted to the new random starts. I built a variable collection line for escaping and then all my builds have kinda built out from there.

Nice, time for another new playthrough.
