XMS Grief — First Sister of the Three Sorrows

“Of the three, Grief is the mourning sister that never leaves us.”
— Rhone, Shipwright of the Unburied Fleet

The XMS Grief is the eldest of Rhone’s Three Sorrows — the first sister, the one who works alone in the dark. Rhone built her from the bones of survey ships that died quietly in asteroid belts, weaving their wreckage together into a vessel that knows hunger better than hope.

While the others — Agony and Misery — slumber and revel, Grief is the one who endures. She digs, she hauls, she feeds the fleet. When docked to her sisters, she forms the tail of the combined vessel Rhone calls The Sorrows, but even alone she is indispensable. In every playthrough, she is the first born and the first needed — the ship that gathers the metal that spawns the next sorrow.

The XMS Grief is a Core-9 asteroid miner and long-range support ship, designed to be the first major vessel a captain builds after their multi-role starter CV (such as the XMS Tricorne). With a bank of 8 Mining Lasers and 4G-capable thrust, she can carve through any asteroid field or wreck cluster with ease, gathering the rare materials needed to construct the XMS Misery and eventually the XMS Agony.

A large hangar bay supports SVs and auxiliary craft, while her power profile is tuned for server play — with thrusters off, she idles at sub-zero energy usage, letting her run indefinitely with minimal fuel.

Her industrial core is formidable: 1 Universal Constructor, 2 Advanced Constructors, and 2 Deconstructors, making her a mobile workshop capable of refining, building, and reclaiming the parts the Sorrows require.

Grief is built with expansion in mind:
• Space to upgrade from Core 9 to Core 17, unlocking mining turrets, heavier thrusters, and an advanced repair bay.
• Mounting room for 16 automining turrets (8 ice, 8 ore)
• Hydrobay slots for grain and vegetable production, ensuring long-term hamburger sustainability

Whether alone or docked to her sisters, the Grief is the backbone of the fleet.

Notes
The Grief is the first sorrow you face and the last one you forget. She digs the graves of asteroids and she births the steels of a warship.

Me too, I've been watching his show every week since I started playing. Its always a huge source of inspiration. It is a treat to see him review my stuff!

Congrats on making it onto "A look at the Workshop". I hope J does the other 2 ships too!

That's a fair take. In play my faction parks a lot, so the journey isn't a big deal. If there were constant docking and re-docking it would get tedious moving between Agony and Grief, but the Grief hangar has many uses, especially before you spawn the Agony. I rarely go to the Agony's bridge unless moving the whole fleet—most of the time I'm working in sector in the Grief or Misery, which stay undocked for long stretches. The Agony acts as a mobile base in a safe sector while we operate for days. The Grief hangar is great for hopping to nearby systems or planets with lots of Abandoned POIs. You can also dock a third Astra module; I've used an Astrapod miner and it worked well. I appreciate the feedback; and I can certainly see how that playstyle could make that extra 5 seconds of journey feel like an eternity!

Messed about with them in creative to get a feel for them. First off, I love the look, the shaping and color schemes, multitude turret locations, and all the greebling around the thrusters.

What I don't like is the big scoop in front of the drills, the way it docks, the incredibly long journey from the main ship to the bridge of this one, and the superfluous hangar.

The big scoop and the docking method contribute to the long journey. It seems as though the scoop is meant to replicate astra modules so you could dock a module at the location on the mother ship instead?

The hangar is large, and there is little need for it in a mid-endgame ship. Having to get close to docking, moving your SV, then returning to the bridge to finish docking is tedious. I would eliminate the hangar and if you *need* an SV there is plenty of rooftop room, even without the hangar bay.

Of course, I would not tell you to change the current ship, just food for thought on your next builds.

très belle réalisation.
J'adore :
- la complémentarité des 3 vaisseaux
- ils sont constructibles rapidement et évolutifs à souhait
- le système d'emboîtement est vraiment utile
Je suis toujours aussi impressionné par le travail que vous faites, les moddeurs
