Drone Battery Degradation

描述
This mod simulates the degradation of drone batteries as they are used. Each Sol, drone battery use and recharge time increases by a very small amount (up to 1%).

Difficulty level is configurable:

EASY DIFFICULTY: 5% increased battery use and recharge time every 100 Sols (After Sol 500, rate falls to a 2% increase every 100 Sols)

MODERATE DIFFICULTY: 10% increased battery use and recharge time every 100 Sols (After Sol 500, rate falls to a 5% increase every 100 Sols)

HARD DIFFICULTY: 20% increased battery use and recharge time every 100 Sols (After Sol 500, rate falls to a 10% increase every 100 Sols)

VERY HARD DIFFICULTY: 50% increased battery use and recharge time every 100 Sols (After Sol 500, rate falls to a 20% increase every 100 Sols)

EXTREME DIFFICULTY: 100% increased battery use and recharge time every 100 Sols (After Sol 500, rate falls to a 50% increase every 100 Sols)

From a gameplay perspective, this raises the challenge of logistics. More drones than normal may be required as the colony grows because their efficiency is reduced. Charging stations may be needed to be built in greater numbers, and in unusual locations, in order to adapt.

This mod is designed to have a very slow implementation, so it is likely the player will not consciously notice anything for quite some time. However, it should have a more noticeable effect for long-term colonies.

There is no modding option that I know of that can apply battery degradation to individual drones, which could then have different drones at different stages of battery degradation. Consequently, this mod treats all drones as being the same "age" for the purposes of battery degradation.

From a story perspective, you might imagine that dust is affecting parts for drones over time, whether the drones are built yet or not, and it hardly matters what their final assembly date is. No matter how much cleaning is done, a little bit of grit still seems to get stuck in everything, and the result is wear and tear over the Sols on all of the drones.

A new Robotics technology (Drone Battery Replacements) is added to the game. This repeatable research will raise the battery capacity of drones by 5%, and reduce their recharge time by 5%, each time it is completed. Cost of replacing the batteries will go up every time this research is completed. It will appear mid to late in the tech tree. For players concerned about optimizing their drones over time, it is an option that is available. For long-term colonies, it will also provide a place for excess research points to go.

A new Breakthrough technology, Advanced Wiring Harnesses, can dramatically reduce the recharge time of drones.

This technology is deliberately designed to be a fairly expensive solution to the degradation problem. At easy, moderate, and hard difficulties, it is probably not needed, since the degradation rates are so slow. At very hard difficulty, researching this is advisable...and at extreme difficuly, it will almost certainly be a necessity to prevent the drones from falling apart in the long run.

Great idea. Implementing that in the next version.

Neat idea!

Not sure if it's possible, but it would be neat if there was a mechanic to replace/refurbish their batteries at a cost.
