1280 AD: Semigallian Tribes

This is one of the factions of my 1280 AD Livonian Campaign.

The Zemgali, whom the Christians call Semigallians, are an ancient Baltic tribe that inhabits the south of the Daugava river, a land they call Zemgala. Unlike other tribes, such as the Kursi (Curonians) or the Saarlased (Oeselians), the Zemgali haven’t yet surrendered their lands to the Crusading powers, and are in open rebellion against the Livonian Order. The forest is their ancestral home, and their knowledge of the terrain and use of small horses allows them to plan damaging ambushes. Like many Baltic Pagans, they worship the thunder god Pērkons, and they paint his symbol on their shields.
