AI Auto mount as vehicle Gunner

描述
Units in your group who are not medics and in COMBAT mode will automatically start moving to get in any vehicle with a turret within 25 meters of them.

Considering the amount of times your vehicle MG gunners will get incapacitated due to their exposed position, it can be tedious ordering them back into a turret each time they get revived, or ordering another unit to replace the previous gunner if he gets killed.

With this mod, They will automatically get back in upon being revived, or if they find an available vehicle turret they will get into it, as long as they are in combat mode.

The choice of COMBAT mode is so that you can prevent this behaviour when out of combat by putting them back into AWARE mode.

Just as in real combat, somebody needs to be on that 50 asap! After all soldiers would waste no time getting onto a weapon with high firepower to support their team.


Additional Info:

- Vehicle turrets with no ammo left in them are ignored, preventing your AI from getting into a useless weapon


Next update:

- Reducing get in distance for a more realistic look
- Adding mount animation for a more realistic look
- Include friendly groups and enemies, thus making all AI ingame have this behaviour

I was hoping for just enemy AI to get on board, so that update is appealing nice.

@sahin Sure I'll try to do that, I haven't modded config menus yet but I'm going to try to learn how to so you can have checkboxes for "apply to player group", "apply to friendly AI groups" and "apply to enemy groups" that you can tick on and off in the addons config menu. Also a slider for "time between each check for available gunner spot" could be nice.

I'm not home at the moment which is why I haven't updated yet since release but I'll get to it as soon as I can.

For the next update, could you please add an option to choose whether friendly and enemy AI automatically get into turrets? I’d like it to apply only to friendly units.

@Engicop happy you like it, and yeah the game has incredible potential, it's already an awesome game, and it's great that they still update the game but I wish they focused more on improving game mechanics, especially the AI

@Munger Yeah exactly I too read something about that but I wasn't sure how it was coded in, an accuracy buff or nerf according to their class and weapon they hold maybe? So I just decided to go with the Antistasi the mod!

But damn Arma 3 still has so much potential in terms of modding, even after all these years, surpassing pretty much every game I know in terms of gameplay, scenarios and mechanics customization despite its quirks. It's like an all in one game

@PumkinO Ah yeah, that's true. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the other classes do not perform as well, so for example if you equip a rifleman with AT he won't use it as effectively as a proper AT unit due to a skill modifier, and therefore if you want the most effective units there is still an incentive to 'pay extra' to get the proper version. However I must admit I have never validated this by checking the code.

@Munger I actually switched a while ago from Ultimate to Antistasi the mod because I liked the class restriction of units. In Ultimate you can customize troops with whatever equipment which made me just buy riflemen and equip them with AT launchers or whatever I wanted, because why pay the price for specialists when I can just equip a rifleman with what I want?

In Antistasi the mod I found you had more of an incentive to buy Specialist units.

Purely a preference on my end. I appreciate what Ultimate brings but I'm fine with what Antistasi the mod offers + I know the files well enough now that I can mod it where whatever I want to mod in or out I can do myself. I completely understand that some may prefer Ultimate because of the additional content.

Getting that itch for Lythium though and I know it's in ultimate aha
