I myself study Roman history, and my focus is on the Byzantine period of the Roman state, so if the Romans had reconquered Italy and the whole east plus forced the west to acknowledge their Romaness, they would still have their current regalia, just maybe a little bit more expensive looking. But going back a thousand years plus, and even draw upon pagan era dress code would be weird.
I imagine their style throughout the ages is Roman, but looking at the empires last 400 years gives a very good idea of how the trend was, pretty solidified.
