Description

This is a roleplay map I designed for building ships and air crafts, it is almost the maximum size possible you can make a map in gmod. It utilizes fog not only to build atmosphere, but to increase performance. The ocean is considerably deep it serves as a place of rest for player made ships or structures that have fallen down to the black abyss. There is two island cities Innsmouth and Lovecraft. Both have roughly the same layout including a star fort designed to house artillery and other defenses, in a way this map is a spiritual successor to my first map gm_pvpsandbox. The skybox is larger than even the ocean, I designed it this way for flying aircrafts although with the fog I only recommend slow moving ones or airships. To make this even easier there is simple aircraft carriers floating out in the ocean, I figured players might have fun fighting for dominance over them and its preferable to using our nice streets for cars with planes.

Features

Navmesh

Fully navmeshed and almost fully ai-noded.

Gilman House an isolated Spawn

The Gilman house acts as a spawn point, its plopped right in the center of the map to make it more difficult to rush back to town and start rdming players or violating NLR. Its designed as a social hub so it has a stage and a couple of rooms upstairs. There is also a brush placed to assist spawning boats beneath the docks and likely you could build a basic raft there or use the conveniently placed hut there as a boat salesman booth.

Two Towns

The two towns Lovecraft and Innsmouth are two port cities designed for players to sail between, careful there may be something sinister lurking beneath the waves. On each there is an outlet shopping center for two secure transaction stalls, and three misc shops. Two large apartment buildings, a fortress, three cozy cottages for those who want more space, and three warehouses for building boats or storing them, more details in other sections.

Fortresses

Each fortress has five floors, and a wall built to house four artillery guns (Artillery sold separately). A spacious garage for storing tanks and other goodies. An elevator which leads to all five floors and the basement which houses a vault for storing money, weaponry or indecent photos. Its also possible to access the sewers from here allowing players to sneak in if it isn’t properly guarded. This section also has quick access to the hospital in case of emergencies and the prison.

Hospitals

Each hospital has four hospital rooms and space for all kinds of medical things (I’m a modder not a doctor) and a garage for storing ambulances or other medical stuff. Like the military base it houses an elevator that can get to the three floors and the basement. The basement houses a laboratory for testing and a quarantine cell for particularly violent or sick patients.

Sewers

The sewers exist in each town, and each sewer leads into four parts of town, the warehouse district with two ladders, the hospital, and military base. The sewers have doors that are designed fnaf style, when you open one all other doors are forced closed, allowing you to tactically avoid the police or zombies using them (I do not condone running from the law) and the perfect place for shady dealings!

Massive Ocean

The map has a massive ocean designed for boats and its deep enough to trigger various phobias. Unfortunately no ship wrecks or eastereggs but depending on if wind blows in my favor I might add those in the future.

Massive Sky

Despite being difficult to fly under the intense weather conditions and rain, the sky is designed to be as high as possible for planes or airships. Although with the fog it can be a bit hard to fly at high altitudes.

Aircraft Carriers

There are two aircraft carriers each across from a town, these are incredibly simple and easily the least realistic but they serve one purpose. They are designed to launch planes off of or airships, in particular AI planes from LVS although those tend to crash into the ocean on this map so add an explosion timer.

Something Terrifying

There is something lurking beneath the waves, something sinister…

Technical Features

  • Ai Noded (except for helicopters and partially for manhacks.)

Developer Notes.

To some the buildings and locations may look small or cramped at times, this is because I was doing a building challenge to build within a 2x2 grid such as 512x512. It varied from place to place and infrastructure was the exception. The idea was to make the city small enough not to lag out the sewer or take up the whole ocean as well as get better experience with compact spaces. The exception was the later additions like the Gilman house, which was rushed and had no such restrictions, oddly enough I find it more charming than the other places, I don’t know why. And despite the references to HP Lovecraft this has no connection to the Cuthulhu myhos. I am sorry there is no easter eggs this go round but this took an incredible amount of duck tape to get working and similar to siren mine it had a strict release date to be released on or before 31st of October. I plan to add them in the future as an update to address any bugs or glitches players find.

FAQ

Q. Can I reupload this?
A. No not without permission or credit, the exception is if it was for server usage or a modified version for server use. In the event you somehow compiled your own for that reason, you may upload it. I intend to release the files soon, so server owners can freely mod it as needed.

Q. Why does this look choppy?
A. This was my Halloween challenge, I was supposed to start working on it during September but I got sick among other problems. I am not done with it and intended to do updates in the future.

Q. Do you take suggestions?
A. Yes, although keep in mind the map is hitting engine limitations so it may or not be possible without rigging it.

Q. Why is the lighting on the roads choppy?
A. Road quality was a noble sacrifice for the map to compile, engine limitations can be a pain I will try to fix them in the future.

Q. Can I disable the rain?
A. I tried to add a button for it, but there wasn’t an option for it, if its possible I’ll add it in the future. Although maybe I’ll do an alternate version in the future without rain instead.

Q. Can I disable the monster lurking beneath the waves?
A. Yes, there is an admin room hidden on top of the skybox at one of the corners of the map.

Q. Why is there no 3d skybox?
A. To make sailing easier, originally there was one but I kept sailing into it without knowing It was there because of the fog. Another noble sacrifice for player convenience.

  • Polyhaven – Random Textures particularly the weird looking ones due to the converter I was using being wonky.
