In real life using raw animal manure as fertilizer is rather problematic. Besides being unsanitary and disgusting, raw manure can contain weed seeds and pathogens that can harm the plants they are supposed to nourish. A better way is to first process manure into compost, which breaks down these harmful parts and decomposes them into raw nutrients.

To this end, this mod disables usage of Manure as a fertilizer and replaces its role with a new resource, Compost. It is made at a 2 Manure to 1 Compost ratio in fermentation barrels, at 20 Compost per 24 hrs. In return Compost is double the effectiveness of Manure as a fertilizer, with twice the growth rate added at twice the length of time. Plants that could not be fertilized with Manure can now be fertilized with Compost, at 50% growth rate.

Compost is also stored more densely than Manure, with twice the stack size. It can be stored under a roof with no decay. The recipe for Compost is unlocked by the Composting technology, which is hidden behind Manure research.
