A Tribute to Normandy

Nearly a year in the making, Saint Noir is a labor of detail and realism — over 300 hours of design built to capture the essence of Normandy. Every hedgerow, flooded field, and winding road has been crafted from real terrain studies to create one of the most authentic battlefields ever made for Easy Red 2.

While Saint Noir itself is fictional, it draws inspiration from countless Norman towns — a flexible, living map that can represent nearly any battle in the region. Designed as both a testing ground for realism and a creative benchmark for future mapmakers, this is Normandy reborn through dedication, imagination, and the will to push Easy Red 2’s limits.

-The Noir River-
Flows from south to north, dividing the battlefield with natural beauty and tactical peril. Its banks flood easily, forcing players to plan crossings carefully.

-Bridges of Conflict-
Two key crossings: a rail bridge vital for movement, and a blown road bridge destroyed in retreat by the Germans. A third water lock bridge offers a narrow, high-risk passage point.

-Farmsteads & Homesteads-
Scattered farmhouses and barns provide cover and staging areas for assaults. Each one tells a silent story of the battle’s toll on rural Normandy.

-The Four Roads-
North, South, East, and West — all roads lead to Saint Noir. These arteries converge at the town’s heart, creating intense chokepoints for advancing forces.

-The Church of Saint Noir-
The town’s central landmark and the tallest structure on the map — visible from nearly every direction. A beacon of both hope and devastation.

-Hedgerows & Apple Orchards-
Dense bocage terrain and orchard lines provide natural defense, concealment, and classic Normandy-style combat — forcing close, tactical engagements.

A custom AI cover network built from the ground up. NPCs and bots now use hedgerows, embankments, props, and walls as natural cover — creating dynamic, believable combat behavior and eliminating those classic “standing-in-the-open” moments. This system pushes Easy Red 2’s AI tactics to a new level of realism.




Updates 1.4 -

-Changed the name of the map to Saint-Noir
-Adjusted trees for better AI pathfinding.
-Finished all of the Northern and East part of the map.
-Finished all AI testing for pathfinding.
-Finished the background outside the whole map.
-Finished adding names to all POI locations around the map.
-Added a underpass to the train tracks northeast of the town.
-Updated the Saint-Noir Bridge.
-Updated the North road into the town.
-Removed any unnecessary mods from the map.


Map is now 100% done



Updates 1.3 -

-Adjusted bushes, hedges and more trees for better AI pathfinding.
-Finished working on northern part of the map.
-Finished updating the train yard.
-Added some names to more locations.
-Added a farm house in the northern part of the map near the north road into town.
-Added an Apple grove near the train yard.
-Added light poles and street lights for night missions.
-Updated all grass around the town.
-Updated the background outside the whole map.
-Removed any grass inside any buildings.
-Updated the outside of the map.

Map is now 85% done.



Updates 1.2 -


-Adjusted bushes, hedges and some trees.
-Started working on northern part of the map.
-Finished railway track and railway bridge.
-Finished and updated northern section near the railway bridge.
- Added some names to more locations.
- Added more flooded fields in the northern part of the map.
-Added a farm house in the northern part of the map.

Map is now 80% done.



Updates 1.1 -

-Removed and updated all the fencing around the map.
-Adjusted bushes, hedges and some trees.
-Also added more cover in certain locations.
-Added a train-yard to the train station.
-Started working on northern part of the map.
-Finished and updated northern section of the town, next to the train yard.
- Added some names to locations.

-Removed and updated all the fencing around the map, still more to be done.
-Adjusted bushes, hedges and some trees.
-Also added more cover in certain locations.

Incredible work! I made a simple mission to test it out myself. It feels like playing a faster paced Hell Let Loose. Would love to see more maps with this quality.
