The modification allows the player to experience the war between humans and orcs from a different perspective. Shortly after the hero's departure for Irdorath, the inexperienced orc Bumshak leaves his fiancé in the orc capital to help his people win the valley of mines.

The player starts out as a simple scout assigned to an outpost near the Rock Fortress. After a few simpler tasks, such as collecting herbs or searching for lost orc dogs, you will be promoted to warrior and play a crucial role in storming the castle and securing the valley of mines.

Genre-wise, Bumshak is more of an action-adventure than a pure-bred role-playing game. You don't get any experience points for completing quests or overcoming enemies, so you can't improve your character's stats at will. The acquisition of new weapons and armor is also not possible. Instead, at the beginning of each of the five chapters, the hero advances further in the Horde hierarchy, receiving better stats, weapons, and armor accordingly.
