Yuuka Character Mod

Adds Yuuka Kazami as a playable character. Mod also includes the act 1 boss for other characters, allowing you to obtain her exhibit, and, therefore, gain access to her card pool. Also includes a jadebox, "Garden of All Dreams," which can be enabled while playing as any character.

Overview

  • Colors: Red and Green.
  • Cards: 73.
  • Act 1 Yuuka boss is included.
  • "Garden of All Dreams" jadebox.
  • Supported languages: EN, JP, KR, CN.

New Mechanics

  • Bloom: a resource that slowly generates mana tokens, or can be used for other effects. These tokens retain and have auto-exile, so you can stock up on them without fear of clogging your hand (if you overdraw, they automatically trigger, giving you mana).
  • Flourish: use Bloom proactively to trigger the alternate (usually stronger) effects of various cards. Flourish is optional, you can opt to not spend Bloom.
  • Fervor: percentage-based, one-turn damage boost. Often comes in a delayed form. Likes good timing. Likes Firepower. Likes Vulnerable. Probably silly with Marisa/Koishi.
  • Arrange: put cards from deck/hand/discard on top of your deck. Even if you drew your card at the wrong moment (e.g. big blocker prior to opponent's burst turn), you can just save it for the next turn.

Themes

  • Midsummer Flowers: ramp the damage of your flowers, or even use them for alternate purposes.
  • Growth: grow your cards, ramping ahead of the opponent.
  • Delayed effects: plan ahead and align your combos.
  • One Turn Kills: do nothing for 2 turns, deal 300 damage at turn 3.

Design Notes

Yuuka is designed to be splashable and non-parasitic. While Green starts with an easy access to Bloom and Red is better fit for the combo playstyle, players are encouraged to mix the pieces from the other color, instead of going all-in into one particular mechanic. She benefits from other character's toolkit, and they'll benefit from hers. Yuuka benefits from having a little bit of everything.

Balance may require future refinement. Yuuka started out underpowered, got buffed a bit too much, and now has been toned down again. Balance feedback is welcome. Card pool is mostly complete, but some cards might change.

Neutral card "Flash of Spring" is banned in Yuuka runs. Yuuka's toolkit makes enabling it way too easy, to the point it invalidates half of her attacks.

Mod includes a "Growth Count Tracker" UI element that's not restricted to Yuuka.

That's how Call on Friends works for other characters, too. It still generates teammates from the pool of available ones (+Fairy of Light when upgraded). So if you don't have Cirno's relic, the pool will be quite small, as most characters have only 1 teammate, and as an off-color.

In base game, this is most noticeable when you get Call on Friends through Breaking Boundaries.

I like Fervor, just because it rewards big attacks way better than Firepower.

But I used Garden of Borrowed Dreams to get Cirno's Unique "Call On Friends," and when I played it, it never let me pick a teammate card. It just went straight to discard with no effect. So I upgraded it, and when it's upgraded it always provides a Fairy of Light as the fourth option, and then it would only display the Fairy of Light and nothing else. I don't know what caused that bug, but figured you might want to know.

Fervor might look boring, but unlike temporary firepower (which rarely gets to high numbers unless you're looping), it's very explosive and priced appropriately—mostly on expensive cards, often in delayed form. As such, it requires good timing to make best use of and makes for a flashy payoff when your attack suddenly does over a thousand damage.

It also goes well with other damage modifiers like Vulnerable due to its multiplicative nature (which base deck tries you to teach—defend with Radiant Glare, retaliate next turn).

I find Red Yuuka significantly harder to play than Green, because you need to plan ahead with how your bursty turns will be lined up, otherwise these big flashy effects will whiff.

Most of the mechanics are quite fun (I especially like the optional nature of Flourish and the increasing drain speed of higher levels of Bloom), but Fervor feels kind of dull by comparison – sure, it's mathematically different from Temporary Firepower (more advantage to bigger cards rather than to multi-hit ones), but it doesn't feel very different.
