Jotaro Kujo, the star, the crusader, joins the fight, show your opponents just how overwhelming the strongest stand can be!



You can't pay back what you owe with money!

Jotaro is a rushdown character focused less on combos and more on raw power, doesn't mean he doesn't have combo potential, though it will definitely be harder to net simpler strings with him. Jotaro is a overall simple character who's meant to make you feel like you're beating your opponents into a pulp!

Stand Tandem
Jotaro's main gimmick is his stand, Star Platinum. While performing jab, a tilt, dash attack or any aerial, you can press the shield button (or in this case the stand button) to have Star Platinum perform an attack alongside you, the attack varies based on input and it's not limited to what you're performing now. For example, if you use ftilt then quickly press up before pressing shield, Star Platinum will perform up tilt, and so on

Stand Control
Pressing shield during fspecial, uspecial or jab will make Star Platinum not return to you immediately after attacking, allowing it to control the area where it is. While detached, Star Platinum will automatically face the nearest opponent and will perform your inputs regardless of whether you press shield or not. Pressing shield during any stand attack will make it retreat at the end of it. Using up special will automatically recall the stand. While the stand is out, Jotaro will take slightly more damage from attacks. If the stand is hit it will retreat and Jotaro will take damage.
Certain attacks will make Star Platinum temporarily detached, allowing you to perform detached attacks on the fly but still have Star Platinum return to you right after

Star... Finger!
Nspecial will make star platinum enter the star finger stance, it will hold the pose for 2 seconds, or 4 seconds if detached, and will attack right after or if special is pressed

High Jump
Pressing down and the special button after reaching the peak of up special will allow you to redirect it horizontally, like Ranno up special, if star platinum is detached then a smaller version of uspecial will be used. Pressing shield during it or when pressing special will retreat the stand and make you perform the small version

Star Platinum, The World!
After landing a long enough combo the hud colors will invert, if nspecial is pressed (while not in hitstun) any action you're currently performing will be canceled into the time stop. Jotaro will be fully invincible while time is stopped and all damage dealt to an opponent will be stacked up and dealt all at once after, projectiles Will be frozen in place and will only move again as soon as time resumes




Credits
Jotaro was a rather quick project all things considered, I was already working on DIO (very slowly) when I found Gonker's post with the base sprite, so I hit the guy up and the collab started. Give or take 3 months later he was finished, Gonker is a great sprite artist and his help with DIO after was very appreciated. Overall I'm so happy this is all done.
Also, massive thanks to MisteryJoJo for going along with my ideas and making the panels for the trailer, in the end it was worth it

Yes it has counterplay, the stand can be hit to make it retreat, without the stand you are more vulnerable and take more damage, the detached stand will mimick your inputs and stuff. The stand is the main gimmick

Stand is still not a full overall mechanic tho. They don't have resources or counterplays. They are more like extra properties for certain moves

they have a stage control, it's called stand detach, the stand is their unique mechanic, no character is literally desync ice climbers lol

also you're correct, time stop is not the main gimmick

You don't plan wanna add a unique overall mechanic, a movement tool and a stage control for each of them like an average rivals? I honestly don't see timestop matters that much in gameplay cuz it's a win more type of tool

jotaro and dio are inspired by how they're designed in heritage. Jotaro is effectively a rushdown that beats the crap out of you while dio is a way more technical character with a stupidly high skill ceiling. Dio is meant to be much more reliant on the time stop which lasts 5 seconds for him while jotaro's only lasts 3

He seems so much stronger than Dio which doesn't really fit the theme. I always think he should have many sweetspot moves because his ability is all about condensing all his power into a small area and land it with precision. The way he has beaten Dio is also how he made used of the shorter time he has than Dio. Pretending to be weaker and to be dead. This can be translated to using all the power he will have in the most important moment and become weaker afterwards.

Accidentally turned Jotaro invisible after I KO'd him right before his Star Platinum resummoned which is pretty hilarious
