DIO (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

描述
ほう…向かってくるのか……逃げずにこのDIOに近づいてくるのか…

Then come as close as you like!
DIO, The scourge of the Joestars, the strongest stand user, joins Rivals of Aether. Bringing with himself his uncontested power and limitless supply of butcher knives. Show your opponents the true power of THE WORLD!

DIO's Motionless World

DIO is a very combo heavy character, though his damage output is quite low, his abilities lie more in the ability to start and extend combos which culminate in the powerful finisher that is the time stop

Stand Tandem
DIO's main gimmick is his stand, THE WORLD, the most powerful stand. While performing jab, a tilt, dash attack or any aerial, you can press the shield button (or in this case the stand button) to have The World perform an attack alongside you, the attack varies based on input and it's not limited to what you're performing now. For example, if you use ftilt then quickly press up before pressing shield, The world will perform up tilt, and so on

Stand Control
Pressing shield during fspecial air, dspecial, uspecial or jab will make The World not return to you immediately after attacking, allowing it to control the area where it is. While detached, The World will automatically face the nearest opponent and will perform your inputs regardless of whether you press shield or not. Pressing shield during any stand attack will make it retreat at the end of it. Using up special will automatically recall the stand. While the stand is out, DIO will take slightly more damage from attacks. If the stand is hit it will retreat and DIO will take damage.
Certain attacks will make The World temporarily detached, allowing you to perform detached attacks on the fly but still have The World return to you right after

Checkmate!
DIO's neutral special can be charged, storing up to 5 knives. If performed while the stand is not detached, 2 more knives will be thrown and if charged, the charge won't be consumed if the knives are thrown during stopped time. Knives can also be used to extend combos thanks to their high hitpause

High Jump
Up special can be angled with the stick, if The World is detached then a smaller version of uspecial will be used. Pressing shield during it or when pressing special will retreat the stand and make you perform the small version

THE WORLD, STOP TIME!
After landing a long enough combo (not counting knife hits) the hud colors will invert, if nspecial is pressed (while not in hitstun) any action you're currently performing will be canceled into the time stop. DIO will be fully invincible while time is stopped and all damage dealt to an opponent will be stacked up and dealt all at once after, projectiles Will be frozen in place and will only move again as soon as time resumes

Credits
DIO was a character long in the making, spamming more than 2 years of development time and many different animators who undertook the task. The initial Collab was between me and Jazzicks, Gonker came around about a year later to make Jotaro and lend a hand with DIO. However progress was slow so I decided to get MisteryJoJo in along with Mr.Rix in order to meet the 5Prints (Malice) deadline. It was one heck of a ride but I'm glad I can finally call this project done, hope you all enjoy what we made.
Also, massive thanks to MisteryJoJo for going along with my ideas and making the panels for the trailer, in the end it was worth it

- DarkDakurai (Coder)
- Jazzicks (Base Sprite, Dio portrait and most of the movement animations)
- Gonker (Roll animation and a bunch of animation roughs)
- Mr.Rix (Animation Rendering)
- MisteryJoJo (World portrait, trailer art, strongs and specials roughs, rendering of some of the most complex animations)
- SpiderBoy (post release playtest and fair, stand uair, ustrong sprite cleanup)

The angle is only the last hit, the knockback is the average of the attacks you used

extremely well done.

the only thing I think this is missing is a road roller as a final smash buddy compat.

aditionally, I'd like to ask, how exactly does the knockback work on time stop? does it register the knockback one by one? or does it only register the last/ the first one?

Yeah you should notify dinobros about that, sorry

A fun set of characters, but for some reason, Stands seem to break the game in Rivals Rogue. They slowly fall through the floor when you activate them for standing attacks or leave them idle, and sometimes (I haven't figured out what exactly triggers this?), attacks that collide with the Stand rack up hundreds of damage for every second they make contact, which gets you invariably one-shot.

Again, both of these glitches apply to both Jojo and Dio, but they have only ever happened to me on Rivals Rogue. Regular stages seem to work as they're supposed to. And for that reason, I understand if you can't really fix it.

i think this is my favorite workshop character period. the last time a platform fighter character hit like this for me was when I played kragg for the first time. the dynamic with when to use knives/hold onto them is insanely interesting, time stop is such a satisfying thing to build to even if I haven't gotten good at capitalizing on it yet, and god, that side-b.

this feels like...on par with vanilla rivals characters in terms of polish and feel. gorgeous sprites, too. thank you for releasing this.

Amazing character, and the fact DIO's crotch is skin colored on the Giorno and Diavolo alts is very, very scary.

no because that's the point of the skill ceiling, also you don't have to hold parry, you can also press it
