The VBL (Medic Logistics) submarine, notable for a single conspicuous hump, is popularly known as “The Camel.” The Camel has a large medical bay and a roomy cargo hold, but very poor resistance to flooding. The forward ballast tank is a dangerous area where many unwanted crew members meet untimely ends in so-called “accidents.”

The IB modification improves the boat’s survivability by replacing the lower magnetic coil with a double magnetic coil, welding an armor layer over it, and installing a discharge coil on the hump.
