School and learning

描述
Version 1.1.0.0

Description:

A lot of people had asked for a mod with only the school part from "Children, school and learning", especially since Biotech added children.

While going through the code to remove the HugsLib dependency I cleaned it up enough to shrink down the work of extracting only the school-part. (It should be exactly the same as the current CSL-version: "1.7.7.6")

You can switch from CSL to "School and learning" without loosing existing classrooms by following the second screenshot above

Includes a blackboard and school-table where skilled pawns can teach different subjects.
- There is now a new schedule-tab for each blackboard and school-table
- Rooms now also influence XP learned with items relevant to each subject
(teacher and room factors can be seen in the new schedule-tab)

- Students can learn until they are 16 [configurable]
- Teachers should have the intellectual skill at a decent level (3-5 or higher, otherwise they teach less) + a high level in the tought subject (around 7 for most, probably needs balancing)
- You can set up certain times in which school activities get higher priority over the normal work

Can be added to a running game / save!
Removing the mod:
With the game and save loaded, go to the bottom of the mod-options for this mod and click 'remove the mod'
If you have removed the mod by accident and are stuck with a black/grey screen after loading - there is an experimental option to try to fix the map (will loose defined areas [like home, roof etc.] enable 'Try to fix map' at the bottom of the mod-options before loading the save - after that you can properly remove the mod)

(There will also be some errors when loading the save after removing the mod from the mod list, but these are usually not serious and vanish after saving again)

(The mod adds a new school-area like the home-area, which is quite hard to remove, so this can't be guaranteed to work, as other mods might also interact with the area)

Mods that interact with CSL still work with "School and learning":
(Some are not updated to 1.6 and will show as red without CSL, but they still work anyway)

- Si-Cafe:
Removes noise and material-need while learning:

- Capi:

Always make sure you actually have the latest version in the ingame mod-list, lately the workshop is sometimes weird.. (unsub/re-sub helps)

if I shouldn't be able to update my mods in the future, feel free to create a new version or re-use parts of it)

I just updated the mod with a fairly big update (at least work wise ^^, if you are not interessted in "A Rimworld of Magic" than there is not really much in it):

Version 1.1.0.0 (Changes for Rimworld 1.6+)

- (1.6) "A Rimworld of Magic" support for might and magic lessons which can gain 'magically gifted', classes, class-XP and spells from a level 20 mentor (+ might equivalents) (all configurable). Lesson graphics, room bonus, cast some of the (safe) newly learned spells in class. (configurable)

@jinn in outer space - Nice that it is working for you

@Bepiss - Sounds possible, but is likely also a lot of work ^^

been waiting for this a long time. Never made sense to me why on the rim where manpower is scarce you'd need a private tutor for every kid you wanted to teach but I preferred biotech to CSL. Thanks for this

It would be so cool to have a standalone mod spin-off from this for "college", how 13+ years olds turn into Students and you can train them into specific fields till 17th birthday and graduate them with additional growth moment. Would be so cool.

@Naturtok - Sounds interesting though ^^ and maybe could still work in addition to it (depends of course how much work it is, I have not done much with rituals, to be able to estimate it)
Naturtok 9 月 26 日 下午 5:24
Oh man I was trying to learn how to mod to make something like this using the Ritual Framework (effectively just add a ritual that pawns with decent int and good skill can give an exp and quality buff to ritual attendants every couple of days), but this looks to more or less do the same thing!

@Dylan
I see. Thanks for the explanation!

I just updated the Mod:

Version 1.0.2.2 (Changes for Rimworld 1.6+)

- Fix: Textbooks should now show up correctly when the classroom bonus is calculated

@Evenstar - Good to hear ;D there were also a bunch of people who just didn't care for the children-part was my impression. (yeah, I was a bit disappointed that they didn't get that the configurability was a major part of it, I would have liked to see them implement some of that in the basegame, makes it a nightmare to debug ;D so it is understandable)

@Babaloo321 - With Biotech you are only able to teach children (as far as I am aware, without any mods that may enable that) (you can configure my mod with a age range, so you could teach anyone)
(you can also configure a lot of stuff, how much is learned etc.)

The Bioteach lessons are also sporadic and random, with my mod you can set up an schedule with teachers and students etc.

I also have dynamic textures on the blackboards and table, which make the classroom feel more alive ;D (you can see it in the upper right in the fourth screenshot, with the books on the table and the lesson on the blackboard)

Filling the classroom with relevant stuff actually gives bonuses for the lessons.

(just depends on what you want to see in your game of course)

I'm really curious what issues people had with CSL working with Biotech? I've played with Biotech and the original CSL for many years without issue, and I still prefer the original because of it's extra pregnancy/birth settings so still highly recommend even with biotech

Sorry, but I've been out of the loop on Rimworld DLC for the past few years, but how does this differ from the similar Biotech mechanics?
