You’ll unlock Vend of the Line after finishing the Borderlands 4 main mission Siege and Destroy. Go to Carcadia City in the Ruined Sumplands and talk to Penelope Streams next to the Guns vending machine.

Then speak to the nearby Vault Gatherer Scout and check the back of the machine. You’ll see four colored dollar signs with slashes. That means sell, and the order is green, green, blue, blue. Sell two Uncommon items, then two Rare items. The screen glitches and Zane feeds you a coordinate chunk: 33.

Your map now marks three clue machines. Do them in any order:
First roof machine southwest of Carcadia: Power is out, so flip the rooftop jukebox switch to restore it. Peek through the hole behind the machine to read the code: green, purple, blue, green. The icons have no slashes, which means you must buy the items. Since the machine has no stock, sell a green, a purple, a blue, and a green to seed its Buyback, then immediately buy them back in that same order. You’ll get the next chunk: 96. This step also fixes a known bug where selling alone won’t progress the quest.

Crumblehall machine in Grindstone of the Worthy: The unit toppled onto a Vault Gatherer. Red arrows on the housing were painted when it stood upright, so “up,” not “north.” Climb up, look through the window, and read purple, purple, orange, orange. You don’t need to sell or buy here. The pinned Gatherer punches it in for you and Zane adds 8-W.

Embracer’s Bluff machine in Lopside: Talk to the customer, smack the machine to vent it, then either bonk the customer or shoot the unit once to trigger its defenses. Crawl into the left-side gap to see the code on the back: green, purple, blue, purple. This set uses slashes, so sell in that order. Zane confirms the last chunk: 1.




At the Dusty Dangler, clear the Rippers, then check the back of the porch machine for green, blue, purple, orange and sell in that order. Yes, that last one is a Legendary. Use Buyback after to recover your item if you want. Follow the powered wire down to the shore door, push through the lair, and drop into the arena. The “Legendary Vending Machine” wakes up as Vend Zane. Kill it. It’s chaotic but short.

Now the real prize. The Legendary Vending Machine lights up with a spread of Legendary weapons for $1 each, but you only get to pick one, and once you buy, the machine shuts down and the mission ends. In co-op, only one player gets to claim a weapon, and the mission is non-replayable, so decide your loot order before anyone presses purchase.

This is where most players miss the good stuff. The machine has a hidden flow for the All Things Vend trophy/achievement. Before you buy anything, look at the wooden board on the ground where Vend Zane first stood. It shows three green dollar signs with slashes, then one orange without a slash. That code means sell three Uncommon items first, then buy one Legendary from the machine.

Do that sequence and the unit dies for real and drops the Picture of Zane and Levaine. Take it to Zane at Moxxi’s Bottoms Up in Carcadia to wrap the secret and pop the trophy. If you buy a Legendary without selling the three greens first, you lock yourself out forever.
