What Are Auger Mines For?
They’re optional cave runs (grouped as activities) that open after the main mission Shadow of the Mountain. Each mine ends in a named boss you can farm for targeted Legendary drops.

Your first clear of any Auger Mine pays 40 SDU Tokens for storage upgrades. Finish all seven to complete Dig, Delve, Discover for a vehicle cosmetic plus a fat dump of XP, cash, and Eridium. Every mine has vending machines near the end so you can restock before the boss. None of this is missable, and you can do the lot post-story in free roam.
