Overview
A full set of original MTG 396 MTG cards and 11 Tokens. No expansions (such as a Commander set) are planned at this time. The set code is PWR. I will do monthly grammar/syntax updates as I find them (so please let me know if you find any) and balance updates (if required, though I'll do these as sparingly as possible).

All cards and tokens are scripted to operate with Easy Modules for MtG Encoder by Tyrant and Encoder by Tipsy Hobbit, though are entirely self-contained and playable without it.

The set is fully draftable using Draftmancer[draftmancer.com] and the accompanying files found on my website[kidkamando.github.io].

Mechanics
The NEW
PWR introduces a few new keywords, Unite & Combination Sequence, and one new mechanic, Saga Auras.

Unite allows the Zords to combine, building into ultra-powerful, ability-loaded entities in a method similar to Mutate, except the united creature has the combined stats of all its parts, not just the stats of the top-most card. In addition, Zords can Unite from the battlefield! Just remember, any united permanents are a creature in addition to their other types.

And once you have a few Zords united together, that means you've made a Megazord! By sacrificing a stack of united permanents, you can summon out a massive Megazord via its Combination Sequence ability. While you do lose material, these Megazords pack extremely powerful abilities, high stats, and many have inherent protection! However, due to their extreme power, Megazords can't be cast and can't even go in your deck! They must be played from your sideboard or Command Zone and must be declared during your Pre-Game Actions (similarly to Companions). You must use Combination Sequence or another method of cheating them in in order to access them!

There's also a ruling update specifically for Megazords, which augments the existing Companion ruling to alternatively allow for a Megazord instead:
In Commander, you may declare one Megazord or Companion, which must be within your commander's color identity. Your deck, including your commander, must meet its companion requirement (of which, Megazords have none). Although the Commander variant does not use a sideboard, a Companion or Megazord is not counted as one of the deck's 100 cards.

On the other hand, Saga Auras act just like Saga Creatures from FIN, where they come out for a short time with powerful effects, before sacrificing themselves a few turns later. Be sure to make the most of their effects while you have the chance!

The OLD
PWR also marks the return of Level Up and Squad. While Squad is completely unchanged, Level Up has been completely overhauled to make it more viable.
  1. The Levels required for abilities and stat increases has been greatly lowered.
  2. Some cards have two [Level+] textboxes. These cards keep abilities from all their Levels. Timestamp Rules mean that their power and toughness update to the last-acquired level, which makes it functionally (and logically) the same as the [Level X-Y] cards.
  3. Some cards talk about Leveling Up (as in, "Whenever [this card] levels up..."). This is shorthand for "Whenever one or more level counters are put on this card, [effect]". However, these cards don't obtain these abilities until they reach the required level, so they'll require another activation to use that effect!
  4. Some cards say, "[target] Levels up." This is shorthand for "Put a level counter on [target]."

NOTE: Some cards refer to "When [this card] transforms...", which is meant to trigger when the card flips to that side. I'm sorry if that is/was unclear.

Draft Guide & Set Description
PWR Themes
PWR was designed with the following focuses: Zords & Megazords, Waves of Minions (Squad) and Powering Up (the Voltron mechanics of Level Up and Equipment). While many archetypes and cards don't fit within these themes, these are the philosophies and feel the entire set is designed to evoke.

PWR Color Actions
Each color was specifically designed around the following ideas, though they each have inter-color synergies and cards for each theme in their colors.
  • W - Zords, GY Tokens, Activated Abilities
  • U - Zords, Squad, Villains
  • R - Discard, Squad, Activated Abilities
  • B - On LTB/Sacrifice, -1/-1 Counters, GY Tokens
  • G - Squad, +1/+1 Counters, Activated Abilities

Afterword
As a lifelong fan, this is my love letter to Power Rangers as we know it. I grew up with the show and have seen every episode and every season. With the end of the current version of the property, I wanted to celebrate and send off this amazing part of my life. I took a lot of time and care to represent every season, taking a Ranger, Zord, Villain, and Minion from each one, referencing as many moments as I could think of, and including as many American-Only features as I could (though, I love the Sentai for what it has allowed Power Rangers to be). There's as even of a representation of Rangers as I could make (the Extra Rangers have the largest showing of all the colors, however).

While not everything made it due to needing to balance color-spreads, archetypes, representation, and making it fun to draft and play even through its high-amount of Legendaries, I included as much as I possibly could. I'm sure an avid fan can pinpoint my favorite seasons, haha. I did try to be unbiased as much as I could, but I'm sure my preferences leaked through here and there. I do love Hyperforce and the 2017 Movie, but I wanted to focus on the show and its canon more than anything else, as that's what this is truly a tribute for.

Making cards and working for WotC is my dream. I would love to design cards for real (hit me up anytime, Gavin), so any love and support you give is extremely appreciated. Thank you for reading, thank you for playing, and most of all...

May the Power protect you.
