Battle of the Grain Elevator – September 1942

This map recreates the brutal fighting around the Grain Elevator during the Battle of Stalingrad in September 1942. The Grain Elevator was one of the most iconic landmarks in southern Stalingrad – a towering concrete silo that dominated the surrounding terrain and became the focus of intense combat between German attackers and Soviet defenders.

The scenario places players in and around this massive industrial complex, where every room, staircase, and piece of machinery became part of the battlefield. German forces attempted to storm the silo from multiple directions, while Soviet soldiers of the 35th Guards Rifle Division, reinforced by naval infantry, held their ground with remarkable determination.

Historically, the defenders inside the elevator resisted for several days despite being outnumbered, low on supplies, and eventually cut off from reinforcement. Their defense became legendary, symbolizing the stubborn Soviet resistance in Stalingrad.

This map tries to recreate real-life locations as accurately as possible, from the towering silos to the nearby rail lines and housing blocks, to immerse players in the historical atmosphere of one of the fiercest battles of the Eastern Front.
