Mod: Converts the Fridge into a new building, the Cooler.

Let's face it, in the grand scheme of things refrigerators are kinda useless. They don't stop decay for food items, only delays it. In their use case freezers are the better, if more expensive option.

In the end, if you are building lots of fridges, it's probably as part of a freezer room, a well insulated section of your base cooled by air conditioners. Fridges are the preferred storage options for these rooms because of their 20 slot storage; much more than the 15 offered by shelving in the same space, though they have to be off to enjoy the freezing temperature of the room.

Unfortunately, that has its own problems, as using off appliances as food storage sometimes discourages your survivors from taking things from them. As a result, I've often realized my survivors are growing ravenously hungry without me to micro manage them. Also, having food stuck in a dark metal box just looks mid to me.

So I made a compromise.

Refrigerators are now Coolers, which are basically the same thing only without the cooling capability. They:

• use much less power; a measly 1 instead of 8
  
• operate at room temperature which makes them great for freezer rooms
  
• cost a bit less to research and build than the refrigerator

Of course, both coolers and freezers are part of the same building type and can be reconstructed into one another.

Coolers are meant to operate in freezer rooms, where the ambient temperature inside is enough to stop food decay. They offer the storage capability of the fridge without the power consumption or the problems in interacting with an off appliance. Of course, having no cooling capabilities of their own, they're gonna have a bad time if a heatwave proves too much for your air conditioners to handle...



This mod modifies the same entries as Fridges, Please and A Cold Overhaul, meaning they will conflict with each other, along with any other mods that modifies the fridge and the freezer buildings and the Refrigeration research entry.
