I play with Larger LWOTC so sometimes i have more than 100 soldiers in the armory so the flags help me to pinpoint specific soldiers. (If i want to look at Gordon Freemans kit i don't have to look at any other soldier, just find the half life flag)
what about the places where you *can't* see the soldier's flag? it's kind of useless then, no? i sort my soldiers by name - first name is squad, last name is number, nickname is their "actual" name, ex. "Krueger 'Steak' 1-1" from my Fallout-based Deathclaw squad.
this way, i know immediately which squad they're from just by checking their name, and it appears in more places overall compared to flag / squad icon. has a nice side bonus of making it easier to name characters who have unknown first / last names, you just give them a good nickname and call it there
So if my soldier has the a Portal flag, that just shows me that he is from that game and he is in that squad (if i have a squad for them in LW).
These flags should never appear for random soldier I believe, so you can always choose to not equip them.
kind of immersion breaking to slap a flag onto a character that's literally just their real world branding, no? the L4D gang doesn't really need the banner from their game's Steam store page as their nationality, very silly.
feels kind of corporate, as well - reminds of things like Fortnite or CoD shoving the branding of the thing they're crossing over with everywhere, they don't even attempt to make it fit.
