The T-34-85 is a Soviet medium tank introduced in 1944 as an upgraded version of the earlier T-34, designed to counter advanced German armor such as the Panther and Tiger. It featured a more powerful 85 mm ZiS-S-53 gun housed in a new three-man turret, greatly enhancing its anti-tank capabilities while improving crew efficiency and survivability.

The tank retained the sloped armor and Christie suspension of the original T-34, but with increased frontal armor protection—up to 75 mm—offering better resistance against enemy fire. Despite these upgrades, it maintained excellent mobility and ease of production, making it one of the most well-balanced and cost-effective tanks of World War II.

The T-34-85 played a crucial role in Soviet offensives from 1944 onward, contributing significantly to the Red Army’s push into Eastern Europe and Berlin. Its combination of firepower, armor, and maneuverability solidified its place as one of the most iconic and influential tanks of the war. After WWII, it remained in service with many countries for decades, serving in numerous postwar conflicts around the world.
