描述
The Tifone class was designed to counter Japanese destroyers like Shimakaze and Harugumo, and to be Italy's most modern destroyer. Completed and commissioned two weeks after the end of World War Two in 1948, Tifone and her twelve sisters became the blueprint for all future Italian designs after them. Tifone herself flew a blood red Roman banner from her mast throughout her career. Tifone first fired her guns in anger in 1949, when she, along with the Italian Pacific Fleet, battled the Dutch Navy off Java in support of Indonesian independence. She and the Regia Marina also assisted Israel in both the Palestinian Fedayeen Insurgency, and the Suez Crisis. She played a significant role in the Italian command structure of the Vietnam War, where she served as Admiral Antoni Linetto's flagship. Tifone was never modified to use missiles like her later sisters were, and was placed in reserve in 1973, and scrapped in 1994.
