Tyche Project - Exobiological and Astrogeological Research Bunker

描述
For the future of humanity

The Tyche Project covers research about Pertam's geology and its mysterious plant life. It's fitted out with all the equiment to keep a team of scientists at site. Meaning there are crew quarters along with a canteen but also a garage housing vehicles and a whole expandable floor of rooms to conduct experiments.

Disclaimer

The assumptions made are all scientific gibberish and don't represent any sort of realism. They are completely written from my memory of biology lessons in school.

Lore

As the second research operation on Pertam the Tyche Project aims to gain more knowledge about the planet's history, specifically the endemic life. As revealed by satellite images and later verified by the first people landing, Pertam used to harbor large oceans, striving with life. Earthbound creatures were present in a great manner too. As can be seen today, this is not the case anymore. The oceans are dread wastelands with hulkling boulders and mountains emerging from the ground with grand canyons splitting continents under your feet. Far from anything related to a colourful ecosystem. Few runaway plant species although manage to stand their ground in this hostile plain. How did they survive the sudden drought assuming they've been so adapted to the abundance of water? Shouldn't the decimation and extinction of animal life have killed the vegetation with it? How do they reproduce? How do they power their metabolism?
It was this mystery that a team of 5 eager astronauts dedicated themselves to. The camp was constructed provisionally, as there was no intention of staying for a long time, although discoveries piling up led to more and more investors supporting the project up to the point of setting up a permanent research bunker. Another team of 3 astronauts was sent out to help building and planning as well as to catalogue and establish a new interplanetary cargo route to fortify the flow of the undertaking.
It was necessary to thoroughly plan the construction of the bunker because of the sheer hostility of the desert planet. A product of said planning was the construction of underground facilities and tunnels to keep clean of the raging duststorms as well as to stay cool while the sun blasts the planetary surface. An underground garage was made to keep the vehicles and other sensitive equipment safe from the grainy sand. Imperative was the housing of the scientist staying there for a long time. In order to keep the crew mentally healthy the living quarters were made to feel open and spacious to divert from the thought of living underground.

Name

Tyche is the greek goddess of destiny and fortune which is supposed to underline the sheer improbability of an ecosystem based on water surviving a sudden drought of all surface water. Furthermore it implies that the ecosystems of Pertam have an interesting future ahead of them (Will life on Pertam multiply, disperse and diversify to form a large ecosystem full of different species adapted to the desert?).

Challenges

Besides the usual challenges of trying to build creatively my biggest challenge was coming up with fitting lore. My first thought was some kind of secret facility, maybe military. I thought of making some kind of cloning facility similar to Kamino or a scenario playing in the aftermath of the Prototech war. Though neither of them allowed me to stay in the topic of fieldwork.
One of the greatest challenges to me was coming up with a way to combine a research bunker with fieldwork. After doing some research myself to find some more examples of fieldwork I settled on the examination of plants. After watching Zer0's video about SE2 I learned that Pertam used to have oceans or at least that it looks like it did. I found it to be a fitting planet for my research bunker, because it inhabits plant life without there being water and its climate and weather is also quite harsh, which gives reason to build underground. I thought the plant life on the planet is an interesting mystery and it also complements my "legacy" of being a biology student.

Rooms (counting downward)

Floor 1:
- Entrance; The place where small cargo is deposited for later transportation to the floors below and also access to air ventilation maintenance
- Freight Elevator

Floor 2:
- Garage; Housing two buggies, a fieldwork research van and doubling as a workshop for them. Also a place to store freights and barrels.
- Battery Maintenance
- Canteen; A few crewmembers usually team up to cook lunch for everybody in the team. The room is also used for conference to either to plan ahead for the research work or to discuss the project with investors. Occasionally the investors visit the site personally for the most important of conversations, where traditionally there will be a big meal for everybody afterwards. Kind of like a little party.
- Machine Room; Station upkeep and production equipment
- Crew Quarters; Consisting of 4 bedrooms, a bathroom and a chill area

Floor 3:
- Medbay; Along with an emergency room. On floor 3 to allow for quick access following accidents during experiments.
- Experiment 1; DNA Replication for comparison with Earth's vegetation
- Experiment 2; Accellerated day/night cycle to identifiy behaviour in unusal enviroments (e.g. spinning space station)
- Experiment 3; Reaction to rapid pressure changes
- Elevator Maintenance
- Timer Block Maintenance
- Chemicals Storage

Toolbar menu and terminal is cleaned up to the essentials. To edit hidden blocks toggle the option "Show block in toolbar config".

Have fun :)

Thanks! What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Maybe I can help

This is a beautiful build. I was trying to figure out how to make this into a scenario for myself. If I were a bit cleverer, this would make an incredible non-combative scenario.

Thanks! I held off from proper air vents because the place isn‘t actually airtight, so I went for only a visual kind

Fantastic work :)

This base is very well organised as a space to live and work in. Easy to navigate and use. The colour and material choices are excellent, and I love the use of various scatter items to make it come alive a bit more.

The only note I have is I would have liked to have seen a real ventilation system across the base. But that's a nitpick. Overall it's one of the best bases I've seen in this game. Including all the official ones.

I like it! Especially the light panels behind the beams on level 3.
Good luck with the competiton, because after I will be stealing that light/beam aesthetic
