In civilisations, the males always seem to have the upper hand (or talon, or whatever digits they have), but this isn't true for the Yannys. After they cocoon, almost nothing changes, other than a glowing tail and deformed tentacles. It's no surprise that Yannys are left to maintain Circle Machines while Laurels do all the fun stuff. All they're equipped with is a toolkit. Even when they see a Laurel every 100 years (Yannys and Laurels live for 500 years) to reproduce, it's still boring because Yannys and Laurels have no concept of romance.
