RCT Ventata

Ventata was designed in 1938 as Italy's first DD intended for mass production. Two batches of 12 were built, and the third batch of 9 "revised" Ventatas began in 1942. When the Germans invaded in 1944, only 2 of Batch 3 had been built, as two lay incomplete on the abandoned slipways. Material was shipped from Berlin to La Spezia, now captured, to finish these vessels. Finished as TA44 and TA87 respectively, these ships would serve with the Kriegsmarine until TA44 was sunk off Cagliari, and TA87 was abandoned in port. Ventata herself served in the Pacific for the duration of the war, receiving multiple mid-life refits until 1949, where she would become a training ship until being scrapped in 1954. Many of her sisters ended up in Spanish, Argentinian and Italian East African service.
