The McDonnell Douglas MD-10F is a modernized freighter version of the infamous DC-10, with an upgraded glass cockpit removing the need for a flight engineer. This allows for an extended service life and removes the need to train pilots on two cockpits. Only two DC-10s are still flying in commercial service due to efficiency concerns, being replaced by newer aircraft such as the Boeing 767-300F.
Sunset Cargo flies 15 MD-10 freighters originally used by FedEx. Ordered after their retirement in 2021, they will ease congestion on high-priority cargo routes across North America.
