RN Titanio

Titanio was the lead ship of the Titanio class cargo ship. Built in 1929 for use by the Italian Navy as a cargo freighter, Titanio was built in La Spezia under Mussolini's supervision, due to the importance of the project. In 1932 after the December Plot, Caroni ordered Titanio's original planned class size of 4 to be expanded to 27. In 1940, a second order was made due to the beginning of the Pacific War, from 27 to 1,400. Titanio herself was transferred to Italian East Africa in 1938. The total number built between 1934 - 1948 was 1,364. After Italian East Africa collapsed, Titanio was sold in a historic deal with Saudi Arabia, the one and only transaction made between Italy and Saudi Arabia during Ottavio Caroni's reign. Titanio was renamed to Al-Nimr, and served until 1982, when she was sold to the United Arab Emirates, and turned into a floating hotel in Dubai.
