描述
Myogi was proposed in 1910 as a battlecruiser for the Japanese Navy. She was built in Britain, and commissioned in 1913. Myogi sailed to Japan in July, and entered Japanese service next month. She participated in the Battle of Tsingtao against German forces, shelling the coastline. Her career after 1918 was quiet, and she often sailed to British India, Italian Somalia and the US West Coast during the 1920's. Myogi would undergo a massive refit in 1934, giving her a Pagoda mast, adequate AA, and better rangefinders. Myogi, despite being as old as Kongo, was considered valuable enough to be refit unlike her sister ship Iwate, which was scrapped. Myogi was part of the Combined Fleet in 1940 when the bombing of Singapore began, and fired shells at fleeing British and Italian vessels. After Italian entry into the Pacific War, Myogi would engage the Italian Pacific Fleet over 6 times, with varying results. In 1944, she was critically damaged by gunfire from battleship Ottavio Caroni, and was redirected to Kure for repairs. While on the way, she was torpedoed and sunk by USS Greenling.
