Oooh, Insight... I can speed up my research... but what am I researching right now?
Abstract
The mod introduces two (three with Covert Infiltration) new hack rewards, and improves various texts that appear on existing hack rewards.



Overview
The mod introduces the following hack rewards:
Broadcast Propaganda: Some rookies will join the Avenger some time after the current mission.
Contact Resistance Cell: A soldier will join the Avenger some time after the current mission. This soldier is a reward soldier, so it is as if you bought a soldier from the Black Market, or got one from a mission. So it can be a higher level soldier.
Investigate ADVENT Activity: (REQUIRES COVERT INFILTRATION) A random "basic" Activity Chain will spawn after the mission (Datatap, Crate Extraction, or a Scientist/Engineer).

But if you don't like any of those, then the mod simply also improves the text on various hacks.
Resource-giving hacks will now mention the quantity. This is done in a dynamic way that will automatically reflect any config or other changes.
Insight Hack Reward will now mention the tech that will be influenced by it.
Negative Hack rewards that boost enemy stats, will mention which stats, and by what amount they will change.

Fully localized in German (?).


Configuration
XComGameCore includes the options to disable the new hack rewards, and configure their numbers. The localization file seems to have a config table in it, but this is just for my convenience, changing it will not achieve a lot. I guess in principle you can delete some entries there if you don't like the extra information I provide to the corresponding hack.

No.


Compatibility
  • There is an extra Hack for Covert Infiltration, but it is not necessary. Without Covert Infiltration the chain hack will not exist anyway.
  • The mod Corpse Droped Revamp also includes the information about the number of resources you get from hacks. But in that mod this is hard coded, and mine is done in a dynamic way which is robust against config and some other changes. There is nothing stoping you from using the two mods together, they might show different numbers, but mine will always be correct.


Known Issues
  • I had some issues in testing that I weren't able to fully isolate if they are truly caused by this mod, or just an artifact of my testing. If you run into wierd stuff with hacking, let me know.
  • Getting multiple of the same personnel hack reward in one mission migt not work properly.
  • The attempt to show remaining time on the Insight tech doesn't work properly. However there is logging. So if you see the hack reward and see some wierd numbers, please share log with me.
  • Ignore the broken hack screen in the mod's description images. This is an artifact of the way I tested the mod. You should NOT be getting broken hack screens.

In fact, the CI one will not even exist if CI is not installed, so that's irrelevant.

The text changes will of course work.
For the new hack rewards, the rookies and soldier will problaby work, but the spawn CI chain will obviously not work.

Last update should have fixed the issue but I can't be 100% certain, so please keep eyes open on whether this resurfaces.

wierd. I use the exact same logic the game uses to generate reward soldiers, so it should avoid duplicates just like the base game does. If I get more reports of this I'll try to look into this.

I don't know if it is caused by me installing mod mid-campaign or not, but "Broadcast Propaganda" reward gave soldiers from character pool I already had.

Thank you for the test! I'm not surprised that it works in LWOTC, but I don't know how much these hack rewards fit "lwotc balance". Then again, this is not a question I feel like I need to address!
