DE DDR DR S-Bahn Berlin ET 167 277 477

The ET/EB 167 series, designated as such from 1941, the 277 series from 1970 and the 477/877 series since 1992, are electric multiple units that were manufactured in three construction batches from 1938 to 1944 for S-Bahn services on Berlin's DC network. They were still in scheduled service on the Berlin S-Bahn network until 2003.
For line extensions, including the Nordsüd S-Bahn tunnel, this class was ordered from 1937 in three construction batches with a total of 291 quarter trains (type 1937II: 80 quarter trains, type 1939: 131 quarter trains, type 1941: 80 quarter trains). This order was already changed in 1938 to 72 quarter trains at the expense of the 1941 design in order to be able to produce a trial train in lightweight steel construction (later planned as the ET/EB 151 series). This resulted in a planned number of 283 quarter trains of the ET/EB 167 series.
