The map d1_c17_05 is a cut level from the Half-Life 2 Beta, originally part of the early City 17 chapter. It was intended to bridge the industrial outskirts near the train station to Kleiner’s lab, offering a seamless urban journey without console map loading .​

In this map, players would have encountered the Manhack Arcade, a Combine facility where manhacks were manufactured and deployed. The level featured a blend of industrial and urban environments, including streets, alleys, and interiors. Notably, a bench vice appears on a table with other tools as Gordon and Barney exit Kleiner's lab, though it serves no gameplay function and was ultimately unused in the final game .​
