Voices of the Void Inspired Entities

This has not been thoroughly tested, so it is very possible you may run into a bug or two. Please report any problems you run into and I will probably fix them.

This is a collection of Voices of the Void entities and systems recreated in Garry's Mod. For the most part I tried to at least get the basic gameplay loop of Voices of the Void functional, and it should work in both Singleplayer and Multiplayer.

If you do not know what Voices of the Void is, it's a signal processing game with lots of cool things in it. You can check it out here: https://mrdrnose.itch.io/votv (for free).

These entities are not 1:1 ports of the Voices of the Void ones, but simple representations of them. This is because Voices of the Void is still in development and I have no intention to trying to keep pace with changes made in the real game (that would be really hard). They're mostly just meant to be something that's fun to play around with.

If you've never played Voices of the Void before, you probably won't understand how to use the entities that well. I tried to include a basic sort of instructions on the gm_construct map event script. To access this, load up gm_construct, go into the Q menu, VoTV Options, and hit "Load Map Events".

There's a lot of things I still want to fix and add with this addon, but I thought that it was far enough along that I might as well release it and get feedback on various things. If you suggestions or bug reports, please put them in a thread or something.

WARNING: It is very likely that this addon's day/night system will conflict with any other day/night addon. You may wish to disable this addon's day/night system or whatever day/night system you already have installed, otherwise the sun will probably start freaking out.

sv_votv_hunger_damage (toggle damage at low hunger)
sv_votv_stamina (toggle stamina draining)
sv_votv_stamina_ragdoll (toggle ragdolling when low stamina)
sv_votv_fallragdoll (toggle ragdoll by fall damage)
sv_votv_propragdoll (toggle ragdoll by physics damage)
sv_votv_exploderagdoll (toggle ragdoll by explosion damage)

sv_votv_minutelength (how long a VoTV minute is, in real seconds)

It is ill-advised to use this on gm_boreas or probably similarly large maps, as it will lag immensely whenever the light map updates.

@SWalk42 All saved files for the addon are stored in GarrysMod\garrysmod\data\votv. You can just go there and delete the files. Eventually I'll add a button to do it but it might be awhile.

@AxleTheAxolotl You can modify my code and publish it as long as you give me credit. Though if you're going to use the actual VotV models, you might want to see about asking the actual team to make sure that's okay, just in case.

hey man, i'm uhh making a fork of your addon, you know, replacing models with votv ones, tweaking entities a bit, all that stuff. do you mind if i publish it once i finish? i'll credit you in the description and link this addon as the original.

Technically you could but it's basically all lua code to do so. If you extract the addon you can see in the mapscripts folder how iI setup the events

@Lara "Chara" Sort of, you have to run the lua functions through console though.
For example doing: lua_run VOTV:StartEvent("eventID") will run an event if it exists on the map you're on. I don't have the list of events written down outside of the code though, so you might need to extract the addon and look at the mapscript files to get ahold of the event IDs.
