Amtrak F7A

An Amtrak F-Unit as it would have appeared in the mid-1970s. The F7B is also in my shop. When Amtrak was formed in the early 1970s, it leased cars and locomotives from private railroads. This resulted in the "Rainbow" era that saw a variety of mismatched engines and cars providing service. By the mid-1970s, Amtrak had purchased and painted most of its own equipment, including many F-units.
